Great expectations need a vacation too...

Just like you need time off from work, I believe you need time off from job hunting too.
I don't want to burn out and miss opportunities due to lack of energy, enthusiasm and the like. I've taken a little mental vacation from feverishly combing the job boards to focus on the here and now and hopefully after some R&R I'll be ready to jump back in to the dragons nest.

My mother, who is the keeper of all knowledge and good advice (I say that 100% without any sarcasm, the woman knows everything), had a suggestion on a new way to approach my search. Instead of anxiously trying to stand out from the virtual crowd and using the power of sheer numbers to try and get an interview (I suppose every 100 resumes should yield at least 1 phone call), she thought I might try and turn my focus to the power of networking. Because, as well all know, getting the job is largely about who you know.

How exactly I am going to do this I'm not 100% sure, but it will involve going out of my comfort zone and possibly failing miserably... but who's judging at this point, really. Finding out where I will meet these elusive job granting beings is an entirely different challenge on it's own, and I suppose I need to get used to talking about myself, a lot (which apparently I am already pretty good at).

I'm not really sure where this post was going, except to say that I need a break. I'm tired of the emotional roller coaster, and for now... I just want to go camping.

  2. I totally understand what you're going through. The jobs we want, that I think we deserve (we're awesome smart people hopefully that doesn't sound egotistical) aren't blossoming out there because of the economy. So networking is a great idea, but finding where to start is difficult.

I'm told that it takes some luck and some savvy, but it also takes a lot of time and patience. It took me a year and some odd months to figure out what I want, 9 months to make the connection and even that connection hasn't 100% worked to my advantage just yet. But I have faith for the both of us that we'll find something and if all else fails, we know each other! XD
